Fluorometholone 0.1% Eye prep is a steroid used for the treatment of redness and swelling in the eyes that may be due to infection or allergy.
Indications
- Redness and swelling in the eye: Used for acute and chronic allergic non-infectious conjunctivitis and keratitis with severe swelling and intravascular injection.
- Non-infectious inflammation of anterior segment: Used for anterior uveitis, episcleritis and scleritis.
- Post-operative conditions: Used for irritative conditions after strabotomy, cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Instill 1-2 drops into conjunctival sac 2-3 times daily.
- Dose may be increased to 1 drop hourly during first 24-48 hours in severe cases.
Child Dose (above 2 years):
- Instill 1-2 drops into conjunctival sac 2-3 times daily.
- Dose may be increased to 1 drop hourly during first 24-48 hours in severe cases.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Eye irritation
- Burning sensation
- Watery eyes
- Mild burning sensation
- Reversible increase in intraocular pressure
With prolonged use: Delayed wound healing, increased IOP, cataract formation, thinning of cornea and sclera.
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Fluorometholone 0.1% Eye prep may cause blurring of vision for a short time after use; do not drive until vision is clear.
- Do not use for more than the prescribed duration (may cause glaucoma or secondary infection).
- Do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface or to your eye.
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute after instilling the drop.
- Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye.
- If wearing soft contact lenses, remove before putting in drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting lenses back in.
- Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
