Cyclopentolate is an anticholinergic agent that induces relaxation of the sphincter of the iris and the ciliary muscles. When applied topically to the eyes, it causes a rapid, intense cycloplegic and mydriatic effect that is maximal in 15 to 60 minutes; recovery usually occurs within 24 hours. The cycloplegic and mydriatic effects are slower in onset and longer in duration in patients who have dark pigmented irises.

Adults and children over 1 year: 1 drop instilled in the affected eye(s), repeated after 5 minutes if necessary. Administer 40-50 minutes prior to the procedure.

Infants <3 months: Not recommended.

Patients with heavily pigmented irises may require larger doses.

Common Side Effects:

• Eye irritation
• Foreign body sensation
• Blurred vision
• Eye itching
• Stinging in the eyes
• Increased intraocular pressure
• Burning sensation

Serious Side Effects:

• Acute angle-closure glaucoma
• Xerostomia
• Flushing
• Tachycardia
• Urinary retention
• Tachypnea
• Delirium, psychosis
• Fever, stupor, coma

• May cause blurring of vision for a short time; do not drive until vision is clear.
• May increase intraocular pressure. Use with caution in elderly and patients with shallow anterior chambers.
• Children are more susceptible to systemic side effects.
• If dry mouth, tachycardia or dizziness appear, reduce dose or discontinue.

No adequate information on overdose is available. Excessive absorption may lead to systemic side effects. Consult your doctor if symptoms appear.

Store below 30°C temperature, away from light & moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
