Naftopidil is a selective α1-adrenergic receptor antagonist used for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It relaxes smooth muscle in urethra and prostate to ease urination.
Indications
- Benign prostatic obstruction
- Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Initial: 25 mg once daily (after meal)
- If insufficient: Gradually increase to 50-75 mg once daily at 1-2 week intervals
- Maximum daily dose: 75 mg
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Blurred vision
- Stomach discomfort
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in patients with salt imbalance, orthostatic hypotension and diabetes
- Risk of temporary loss of consciousness due to sudden blood pressure decrease
- Caution while driving (may cause dizziness)
