Olmesartan Medoxomil + Hydrochlorothiazide is a combination used for hypertension. Olmesartan blocks AT1 receptors to dilate blood vessels and hydrochlorothiazide acts as a diuretic to remove excess water and electrolytes, lowering blood pressure.
Indications
- Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Initial: 20/12.5 mg (olmesartan/HCTZ) once daily
- Titrate at 2-4 week intervals to 40/25 mg based on blood pressure response
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Nausea
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Hyperuricemia
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Urinary tract infection
- Chest pain
- Back pain
- Peripheral edema
- Abdominal pain, dyspepsia, gastroenteritis, diarrhea
Precautions & warnings
- Periodically measure serum electrolytes (hypokalemia, hyponatremia)
- Hyperuricemia may occur
- Caution in impaired renal function
- Can cause fetal harm in pregnancy
