Chorionic Gonadotrophin is a polypeptide hormone used to induce ovulation in females and treat hypogonadism, cryptorchidism, and oligospermia in males.
Indications
- Anovulatory infertility & ovulation induction in females
- Preparation of follicles for puncture in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation programs (ART/IVF)
- Luteal phase support
- Threatened and habitual abortion
- Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males
- Delayed puberty associated with insufficient gonadotropic pituitary function
- Cryptorchidism (not due to anatomical obstruction)
- Oligospermia
Dosage
Female Dose (IM):

Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Headache
- Irritability, restlessness
- Depression, fatigue
- Edema
- Pain at injection site
- Gynecomastia
- Abdominal pain
Serious Side Effects:
- Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) - potentially fatal
- Precocious puberty (children)
- Enlargement and rupture of ovarian cysts
- Arterial thromboembolism
- Shock
Precautions & warnings
- Discontinue therapy if signs of precocious puberty are seen in patients treated for cryptorchidism.
- Patients with cardiac or renal disease, epilepsy, migraine or asthma require caution.
- Regular ultrasound and estrogen monitoring during FSH therapy to avoid ovarian hyperstimulation.
- Special caution in patients with polycystic ovarian disease.
- Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
