Indications
  • Anovulatory infertility & ovulation induction in females
  • Preparation of follicles for puncture in controlled ovarian hyperstimulation programs (ART/IVF)
  • Luteal phase support
  • Threatened and habitual abortion
  • Hypogonadotropic hypogonadism in males
  • Delayed puberty associated with insufficient gonadotropic pituitary function
  • Cryptorchidism (not due to anatomical obstruction)
  • Oligospermia

Side effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Headache
  • Irritability, restlessness
  • Depression, fatigue
  • Edema
  • Pain at injection site
  • Gynecomastia
  • Abdominal pain

Serious Side Effects:

  • Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) - potentially fatal
  • Precocious puberty (children)
  • Enlargement and rupture of ovarian cysts
  • Arterial thromboembolism
  • Shock
Precautions & warnings
  • Discontinue therapy if signs of precocious puberty are seen in patients treated for cryptorchidism.
  • Patients with cardiac or renal disease, epilepsy, migraine or asthma require caution.
  • Regular ultrasound and estrogen monitoring during FSH therapy to avoid ovarian hyperstimulation.
  • Special caution in patients with polycystic ovarian disease.
  • Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.
