Pharmacology
Pipecuronium bromide is an aminosteroidal competitive neuromuscular blocker that competes with acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction. It produces non-depolarizing blockade and prevents active muscle contraction. It has no significant cardiovascular or histamine-related effects.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Intravenous):
- Muscle relaxant in general anesthesia: Initial dose 80-100 mcg/kg
- Subsequent doses: 10-20 mcg/kg
- After suxamethonium or high-risk patients: 50-60 mcg/kg
- Caesarean section initial dose: 35 mcg/kg
