Salbutamol + Budesonide is a combination inhaler used for the as-needed treatment and prevention of bronchoconstriction and reducing exacerbations in patients with asthma. Salbutamol acts as a bronchodilator and budesonide as a corticosteroid.
Indications
- Asthma treatment (≥18 years)
- Prevention of bronchoconstriction
- Reducing risk of exacerbations
Dosage
Adult Dose (Inhalation):
- Recommended: Salbutamol 180 µg + Budesonide 160 µg (2 actuations) as needed
- Maximum: 6 doses (12 inhalations) in 24 hours
- Prime before first use: Release 4 sprays into the air
- Re-prime if not used for >7 days: Release 2 sprays
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Asthma deterioration
- Paradoxical bronchospasm
- Cardiovascular effects (increased heart rate, blood pressure)
- Oropharyngeal candidiasis
- Immunosuppression and risk of infections
- Hypercorticism and adrenal suppression
- Glaucoma and cataracts
Precautions & warnings
- Paradoxical bronchospasm may occur (life-threatening); discontinue if occurs
- Monitor cardiovascular effects
- Excessive use may cause fatal cardiovascular effects
- Caution in infection-prone patients (chickenpox, measles)
- May decrease BMD (long-term use)
- May reduce growth velocity in children (indicated for ≥18 years)
