Dosage
Adult Dose (IM):
- Deep IM injection: 1 ml typically every 1-4 weeks
- Dose based on medical condition, testosterone blood levels, and response
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Fluid and electrolyte retention
- Increased skin vascularity
- Hypercalcemia, impaired glucose tolerance
- Increased LDL cholesterol
- Increased hematocrit and fibrinolytic activity
In Males:
- Spermatogenesis suppression, priapism, gynecomastia
- Prostatic hyperplasia and accelerated growth of malignant prostate neoplasms
Serious (Rare):
- Peliosis hepatis, liver toxicity, malignant neoplasm
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in cardiovascular disorders, skeletal metastases, renal/hepatic impairment
- Caution in epilepsy, migraine, diabetes, or fluid retention-exacerbating conditions
- Caution in elderly and prepubertal boys
- Monitor for virilization (females) and priapism/excessive sexual stimulation (males)
