Description
Eggshell Calcium + Vitamin D3 is a combination of calcium carbonate from European eggshell source and cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3). Eggshell calcium is 100% natural, highly digestible (98%), more absorbable and environment-friendly. Calcium is necessary for normal functioning of bone, nerve cells, muscle and other organs. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium. Used for osteoporosis, osteomalacia, osteopenia, rickets, hypoparathyroidism and latent tetany. Recommended dose: one tablet in the morning and one tablet at night. Contraindicated in hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism and severe renal insufficiency.

Pharmacology
Calcium plays a very important role in the body. It is necessary for normal functioning of bone, nerve cells, muscle, and other vital organs. If there is not enough calcium in the blood, the body will take calcium from bones, weakening bones and triggering bone disorders. Vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium.
Mechanism of action
Calcium is essential for bone formation and Vitamin D3 enhances calcium absorption. This combination enriches the organic matrix of bones and increases bone density.
Dosage
Adult Dose: One tablet in the morning and one tablet at night, or as directed by the physician.
Child Dose: As directed by the physician.
Administration
Oral tablet. Take in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. May be taken with or without food.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Eggshell Calcium + Vitamin D3, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- GI irritation (generally orally administered calcium carbonate may be irritating)
- Constipation (eggshell calcium is safe without causing GI discomfort or constipation)
Rare Side Effects:
- Kidney stones
- Hypercalcemia
- Alkalosis
- Loss of appetite
Precautions & warnings
- Discontinue if hypercalcemia occurs.
- Patients with history of kidney stones should increase fluid intake.
- Use during pregnancy and lactation as directed by physician.
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Severe renal insufficiency
- Concomitant digoxin therapy (requires careful monitoring of serum calcium level)
Drug interactions
Possible interaction with digoxin, antacids containing calcium, aluminum or magnesium, other calcium supplements, calcitriol, tetracycline, doxycycline, aminocycline or oxytetracycline.
Food interactions
Intestinal uptake of calcium may be reduced by concomitant ingestion of certain foods (e.g., spinach, milk and milk products).
Use in pregnancy
Use during pregnancy as directed by the physician.
