Fluticasone Furoate Nasal prep

Introduction: Fluticasone Furoate Nasal spray is a steroid that relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis such as runny nose, sneezing and sinus discomfort. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation and allergies.

How it works: Fluticasone Furoate is a synthetic, trifluorinated corticosteroid that provides anti-inflammatory activity. It binds to glucocorticoid receptor and inhibits the migration of inflammatory mediator & cells.

Important Information: This spray should be used regularly for full benefit. It may take a few days for full effect. If no improvement after a week, talk to your doctor.

• Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis - in patients aged 2 years and older
• Prevention of recurrence of nasal polyps - following surgical removal
• Chronic rhinosinusitis - with or without nasal polyps in adults (93 mcg/spray strength)

Nasal Steroid Preparations

Synthetic corticosteroid

Fluticasone Furoate is a synthetic trifluorinated corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory activity. Like other corticosteroids, Fluticasone Furoate has a wide range of actions on multiple cell types (mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, lymphocytes) and mediators (histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, cytokines) involved in inflammation.

Fluticasone Furoate binds to glucocorticoid receptors and inhibits the migration of inflammatory mediators and cells, resulting in reduced nasal inflammation and allergy symptoms.

Adults & Children over 12 years:

• 2 sprays in each nostril once daily.
• May be increased to 2 sprays into each nostril twice daily (not exceeding 4 sprays).

Children (2-11 years):

• 1 spray in each nostril once daily.
• May be increased to 2 sprays in each nostril once daily if necessary.

Children under 2 years: Not recommended.

Instructions for using nasal spray:

• Shake the bottle gently and remove the dust cover.
• Before first use or if not used for a week or more, press several times until a fine mist appears.
• Gently blow nose to clear nostrils.
• Close one nostril and insert the applicator into the other nostril.
• Tilt head forward slightly and keep spray upright. Press firmly to release a spray while breathing in.
• Breathe out through mouth.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular schedule.

Common Side Effects:

• Nosebleeds
• Headache
• Nasal inflammation
• Drying of nose and throat

Precautions:

• Avoid deep breathing while using the spray (medication may go to throat).
• Do not share the bottle with anyone else.
• Avoid in patients with recent nasal ulcers, nasal surgery, or nasal trauma.
• Stay away from someone having chickenpox, measles, or tuberculosis (may lower immune response).

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients

Drug Interactions:

• CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ritonavir) may increase plasma concentrations of fluticasone.

Food Interactions: No interaction found/established.

Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown harmful effects. Your doctor will weigh the benefits and risks.

Use in Lactation: Probably safe during breastfeeding. Limited data suggests the drug does not represent any significant risk to the baby.

Pediatric Use: Dosage available for children aged 2 years and older. No data available for children under 2 years.

Geriatric Use: Dose selection should be cautious in elderly (greater frequency of decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function).

Renal Impairment: No dosage adjustment required.

Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment.

Overdose: Limited information available on overdose. Employ usual supportive measures.

Storage: Store at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Do not refrigerate. Protect from light and moisture.
