Description
Ispaghula Husk + Senna Extract is a combination that helps relieve constipation and maintain bowel regulation in bedridden patients. Ispaghula Husk is a bulk-forming laxative that absorbs water and increases stool bulk. Senna is a stimulant laxative that stimulates gut muscles and relieves constipation. This combination ensures smooth bowel evacuation for patients suffering from hemorrhoids, rectal surgery and colon cancer.

Pharmacology
Ispaghula Husk is a bulk-forming laxative that absorbs water in the intestine to increase stool bulk and weight. Senna is a stimulant laxative that stimulates gut muscles to relieve constipation. Senna extract contains hydroxyanthracene glycosides (as Sennoside B) that increase intestinal motility.
Mechanism of action
Ispaghula Husk absorbs water to increase stool bulk; Senna stimulates gut muscles.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- 1 sachet or 4 gm powder with 150-200 ml water 1-2 times per day
- Adults and children over 12 years: 1-2 spoonful at night with at least 150 ml water
Child Dose (6-12 years):
- 1/2 to 1 sachet or 2-4 gm powder with 150-200 ml water 1-2 times per day
Child Dose (<6 years): As directed by the physician
Administration
Take orally with plenty of water; take 1-2 spoonful of powder with the provided spoon; put powder into an empty glass; fill with 150 ml water, stir and drink immediately; take ½ to 1 hour after intake of other medications.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible; if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to regular schedule; do not double the dose.

Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Drink immediately after preparation

- Long-term use (>2 weeks) requires medical supervision

Drug interactions
Drug Interactions:
- May decrease absorption of digoxin
- May increase effects of warfarin (risk of bleeding)
- May decrease absorption of thyroid hormones
- May decrease absorption of antidepressants, anticonvulsants, antipsychotics
- Chronic use may cause potassium deficiency which may increase effectiveness of cardiac glycosides
Food interactions
Food Interactions: Intake with excessive alcohol can cause serious health consequences.

Use in Pregnancy: Should not be used during pregnancy; special precaution during first trimester.
Use in lactation
Use in Lactation: Can be safely used during lactation.
Pediatric use
Dose for 6-12 years provided above; under 6 years requires physician guidance.
Geriatric use
Safe for elderly; however caution advised.
Renal / hepatic impairment
Renal Impairment: Generally considered safe; patients with kidney disease should consult doctor before using.
Hepatic Impairment: Should be used with caution in patients with liver disease.
Overdose effects
Overdose: May alter electrolyte and water balance; drink plenty of water.
