Description
Levofloxacin 1.5% Eye Prep is a sterile topical ophthalmic solution. It is a synthetic, broad-spectrum, third-generation fluoroquinolone bactericidal antibiotic. The 1.5% formulation provides higher concentration than the 0.5% formulation, suitable for severe infections like corneal ulcers.

Pharmacology
Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase to prevent bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination.
Mechanism of action
Inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV to prevent bacterial cell division and repair.
Dosage
1.5% Eye Drop (Adult and 6 years+):
- Days 1-3: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 30 minutes to 2 hours while awake and approximately 4 and 6 hours after retiring
- Day 4 through completion: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 1 to 4 hours while awake
Administration
- For ophthalmic use only
- Hold dropper close to the eye without touching; place drop in the lower eyelid
- Wipe off extra liquid
- Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute after instillation
- Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface or eye (to avoid contamination)
- Use within 4 weeks of opening
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Side effects

- Transient blurred vision
- Ocular pain or discomfort
- Foreign body sensation
Precautions & warnings
- Caution when driving or using machines (may cause transient blurred vision)
- Do not wear contact lenses until infection clears up
- Avoid prolonged use to prevent overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
Contraindications
- History of hypersensitivity to Levofloxacin, other quinolones, or any components
Drug interactions
- Additive effects with QT-prolonging drugs
- Sucralfate, antacids, zinc/calcium/iron supplements reduce absorption

Use in pregnancy
