Description
Triamcinolone has mainly glucocorticoid activity. It suppresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reduces capillary permeability, thereby decreasing inflammation.

Pharmacology
Triamcinolone has mainly glucocorticoid activity. It suppresses the migration of polymorphonuclear leukocytes and reduces capillary permeability, thereby decreasing inflammation.
Mechanism of action
Blocks production of chemical messengers that cause inflammation and allergies, and suppresses the immune system.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Inhalation):
- Asthma: 1 puff (200 mcg) 2-3 times daily; no more than 6 puffs (1200 mcg)/day
Child Dose (Inhalation):
- Asthma >12 years: 1 puff (200 mcg) 2-3 times daily; no more than 4 puffs/day
Administration
- Administered by a doctor or nurse; do not self-administer
- Not a bronchodilator for rapid relief of bronchospasm
- Regular use at the right times increases effectiveness

Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Headache
- Infection
- Joint pain
Precautions & warnings
- Does not usually affect ability to drive
- Mood changes or stomach problems may occur; inform your doctor
- Do not stop suddenly; may worsen symptoms
- Stay away from people with viral infections
- Regular medical tests may be needed for long-term use
Contraindications
- Sensitivity to active or inactive ingredients
- Untreated systemic fungal, bacterial, viral or parasitic infection
- Not indicated for rapid relief of bronchospasm
Drug interactions
- Lowering of plasma salicylates levels
- NSAIDs: increased risk of GI bleeding and ulceration
- Antidiabetics: antagonised blood glucose-lowering effects
- Amphotericin B, beta agonists, beta-blockers, potassium-depleting diuretics, theophylline: increased risk of hyperkalaemia
- Ciclosporin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, barbiturate, rifampicin: increased clearance of triamcinolone
- Live vaccines: infections may develop
Food interactions
It is not known whether it is safe to consume alcohol with Triamcinolone Acetonide Inhalation; consult your doctor.
Use in pregnancy
