Fluorometholone 0.1% + Gentamicin 0.3% Eye prep is a combination used for the treatment of allergic and bacterial eye infections.
Indications
- Allergic and Inflammatory Eye Conditions: Used for acute and chronic conjunctivitis, keratitis, iridocyclitis, iritis, scleritis, episcleritis.
- Post-operative Infections: Used for prevention of infections after strabotomy, cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Bacterial infection (Suspension): 1 drop 5 times daily into conjunctival sac; severe cases: 1 drop per hour for 1-2 days.
- Post-operative infection (Suspension): 1 drop 4 times daily for 1 week; then reduced frequency.
- Bacterial infection (Ointment): Apply 3-4 times daily into the affected eye.
- Post-operative infection (Ointment): Apply before retiring to support suspension therapy.
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Transient burning sensation after instillation
- Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions (eczema of eyelid, puncture keratitis)
- Prolonged use: Delayed wound healing, increased IOP, cataract formation, thinning of cornea and sclera
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Steroids can mask, activate or aggravate ocular infections.
- Long term treatment with steroid may enhance thinning of cornea and sclera; rarely perforation reported.
- If no improvement after 7-8 days, other therapeutic means should be considered.
- Patients experiencing blurred vision after application should refrain from driving or operating machinery.
- Contact lenses should be removed before each application.
