Amino Acid 8% is a parenteral nutrition solution used for parenteral amino acid supply in severe forms of hepatic failure (liver insufficiency) with and without encephalopathy, when oral or enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient or contraindicated.
Indications
Parenteral amino acid supply in severe forms of hepatic failure (liver insufficiency) with and without encephalopathy; when oral or enteral nutrition is impossible, insufficient or contraindicated.
Dosage
Adults: 1.0-1.25 ml/kg/hour IV infusion.
Maximum dosage: 1.5 g amino acids/kg/day = 1300 ml/day at 70 kg body weight.
Side effects
Side effects: Use in indications other than those recommended may result in amino acid imbalances and severe metabolic disorders.
Injection site reactions, flushing, nausea, vomiting, electrolyte imbalance may occur.
Precautions & warnings
- Constant monitoring of serum electrolytes, fluid balance and acid-base balance required
- Regular monitoring of liver function required
- Do not mix with other drugs (risk of microbial contamination and incompatibilities)
