Flavoxate Hydrochloride is used to treat and prevent muscle spasms of the urinary tract (the urine passing tube). It relaxes the muscles of the urinary tract to relieve symptoms like painful urination, excessive urination at night and the inability to control urine flow. Flavoxate Hydrochloride is advised to take it in a dose and duration as per prescription. It should be taken by mouth with food to avoid stomach upset and other side effects of this medicine. Swallow the medicine as a whole without crushing or chewing it. You should not stop taking the medicine without consulting the doctor as it may lead to the worsening of your symptoms. Some common side effects of this medicine are dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, sweating, headache, nervousness, etc. The side effects may be avoided by drinking plenty of water. It may also make you feel dizzy or sleepy, so it advised not to drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you. If any of the side effects bother you or persist, consult the doctor without delay. Before receiving the treatment, inform your doctor if you are on any medication for any health conditions. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tell your doctor prior to the treatment. Glaucoma (a disease associated with increased eye pressure) patients should be extra careful while receiving the treatment, and they must inform the doctor before initiating it. Flavoxate Hydrochloride is anti-spasmodic. It works by relaxing muscles of the urinary bladder and prevents frequent, urgent or uncontrolled urination, and relieves associated pain.

Adult Dose: Oral Adult: Overactive Bladder Indicated for dysuria, increased urinary frequency/incontinence, nocturia, suprapubic pain, urinary incontinence, urinary tract irritation, urinary urgency 100-200 mg PO q6-8hr Child Dose: Dysuria, Urinary Frequency Indicated for dysuria, increased urinary frequency, nocturia, suprapubic pain, urinary incontinence, urinary tract irritation, urinary urgency 12 years: 100-200 mg PO q6-8hr

Inform your doctor if you have glaucoma (a disease associated with increased eye pressure).

Pyloric or duodenal obstruction; obstructive intestinal lesions or ileus; achalasia; GI haemorhrage or obstructive uropathies of the lower urinary tract; myasthenia gravis; severe ulcerative colitis; toxic megacolon; glaucoma; children <12.

Amantadine, some antihistamines, phenothiazine antipsychotics, tricyclic antidepressants, MAOIs; parasympathomimetics. May decrease gastric motility thus decreasing absorption of certain drugs. May antagonise the GI effects of cisapride, domperidone, metoclopramide.
