This combination capsule is indicated in the treatment of patients with deficiencies of, or increased requirement for, vitamin B-complex and vitamin C.
Indications
- Deficiencies of, or increased requirement for, vitamin B-complex and vitamin C
- Decreased intake because of restricted or unbalanced diet (anorexia, diabetes mellitus, obesity, alcoholism)
- Reduced availability during treatment with antimicrobials
- Increased requirements due to increased metabolic rate (fever, acute or chronic infections, surgery, burns, fractures)
- Stomatitis, glossitis, cheilosis, paraesthesias, neuralgia, dermatitis
- Micronutrient deficiencies during pregnancy or lactation
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- One capsule daily or as advised by the physician
Adult Dose (Injection):
- One vial (10 ml) daily
Child Dose (11 years and above) (Oral):
- 1-2 capsules daily
Child Dose (11 years and above) (Injection):
- One vial (10 ml) daily
Children below 11 years of age:
- Children weighing less than 10 kg should be given 1 ml of the dissolved mixture per kg body weight/day
- Children weighing 10 kg or more should be given 10 ml (one vial) of the dissolved mixture/day
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- The unwanted effects of nutrient solutions are a rise in the body temperature, shivering, chills and nausea and vomiting
- Allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis)
- Dermatological reactions (flushing, erythema, pruritus)
- CNS reactions (headache, dizziness, agitation)
Precautions & warnings
- Folic acid may mask the symptoms of pernicious anemia
- In patients receiving TPN, routine supplementation with both fat-soluble and water-soluble vitamins is recommended
- Daily vitamin requirements must be calculated to avoid over dosage and toxic effects, especially with regards to vitamins A & D and particularly in pediatric patients
- In patients for whom TPN is continued for prolonged periods, periodic monitoring of blood vitamin levels should be considered
- To prevent excessive excretion of water-soluble vitamins, daily dosage should be administered over a number of hours
