Indications
  • Bacterial ocular infection
  • Otitis externa
  • Allergic and inflammatory conditions of the ear
Dosage

Adult Dose (Eye Drops):

  • Conjunctivitis: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) 2-4 times daily

Adult Dose (Ear Drops):

  • Otitis externa: 1-2 drops in affected ear 3-4 times daily

Pediatric Dose: 1-2 drops 2-4 times daily (eye); 1-2 drops 3-4 times daily (ear)

Side effects

Side Effects:

  • Ophthalmic: Increased intraocular pressure and reduced visual function
  • Ear: Discomfort and pain in ear
  • Fungal and viral infections of cornea (with long-term steroid use)
Precautions & warnings
  • Risk of persistent fungal infections with prolonged steroid use
  • Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi
  • If superinfection occurs, initiate appropriate therapy
  • If purulent discharge, inflammation or pain worsens, discontinue use and consult doctor
  • Allergic cross-reactions (kanamycin, paromomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin)
