Lamivudine + Zidovudine is a combination of two antiretroviral medicines used for HIV infection. It prevents virus multiplication and boosts immunity.
Indications
- HIV-1 infection (in combination with other antiretrovirals)
Pharmacology
Lamivudine and Zidovudine are synthetic nucleoside analogues that are phosphorylated intracellularly to active triphosphate metabolites which inhibit reverse transcription via DNA chain termination.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Each tablet contains lamivudine 150 mg and zidovudine 300 mg
- >30 kg: 1 tablet twice daily
- Avoid in patients <30 kg
Children (12 years & >30 kg): As adults
Renal Impairment: CrCl <50 mL/min: Not recommended

- Nasal congestion
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: May be unsafe during pregnancy (FDA Category C). Animal studies have shown harmful effects on the fetus. Use only if potential benefits outweigh risks.
Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
- Monitor liver and kidney function regularly
- Avoid driving or activities requiring concentration (may cause dizziness and drowsiness)
- Use effective contraception
- Avoid alcohol
- Do not share needles or personal items
