Adapalene + Clindamycin Phosphate is a topical gel used for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Adapalene is a retinoid that normalizes skin cell turnover and unclogs pores, while Clindamycin is an antibiotic that destroys acne-causing bacteria. This dual action reduces inflammation and prevents new breakouts. It is usually applied once daily at night to clean, dry skin. In Bangladesh, it is available under brand names like Deriva CMS, Clin Bold Gel, etc.
Indications
Used for the treatment of acne vulgaris
Dosage
Adults and children over 12 years: Apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin once daily at night . During the first week of treatment, acne may worsen (initial exacerbation), which is normal. Therapeutic effect is observed 8-12 weeks after starting treatment
Side effects
Common Side Effects: • Redness (Erythema) • Peeling • Dryness • Itching (Pruritus) • Burning or stinging sensation • Application site irritation Serious Side Effects (Rare – Consult Doctor): • Allergic reactions (Anaphylaxis, Angioedema, Urticaria) • Diarrhea • Bloody diarrhea • Colitis (including pseudomembranous colitis) • Severe skin irritation or contact dermatitis
Precautions & warnings
Avoid contact with eyes, lips, areas of the nose, and mucous membranes . Do not apply to eczematous skin lesions, sunburns, cuts, or other skin lesions . Avoid excessive sunlight and UV light (tanning beds, sun lamps) during treatment due to increased skin sensitivity . Contraindicated in patients with a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis . Discontinue use if significant diarrhea occurs . Consult your doctor during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
