Sulphacetamide Sodium 20% Eye Prep is used for conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and other ocular infections. It exhibits bacteriostatic action by inhibiting bacterial folic acid synthesis.

Pharmacology
Sulphacetamide Sodium competitively binds to dihydropteroate synthetase, inhibiting bacterial folic acid synthesis. It interferes with nucleic acid synthesis, preventing bacterial growth and division.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Ocular infections: Apply eye drops into the affected eye(s)
- May be used up to three times daily
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Burning, stinging
- Conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers
- Irritation, conjunctival hyperemia
Serious (Rare):
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Pregnancy Category: C — always consult a doctor before taking during pregnancy.
Precautions & warnings
- Caution in history of allergy or asthma
- Caution in G6PD deficiency, renal and hepatic impairment
- Prolonged therapy requires CBC and urinalysis
- Maintain adequate fluid intake
