At a glance

Ranibizumab is a humanized monoclonal antibody against VEGF-A used for neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO), diabetic macular edema (DME), diabetic retinopathy, and myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV).

Indications
  • Neovascular (wet) age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
  • Macular edema following retinal vein occlusion (RVO)
  • Diabetic macular edema (DME)
  • Diabetic retinopathy (NPDR, PDR) in patients with DME
  • Myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV)
Pharmacology

Ranibizumab binds to the receptor binding site of VEGF-A, preventing interaction with VEGFR1 and VEGFR2 on endothelial cell surfaces. It reduces endothelial cell proliferation, vascular leakage, and new blood vessel formation, helping prevent vision loss in neovascular AMD, DME, and RVO.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Intravitreal):

  • Neovascular AMD: 0.5 mg (0.05 mL of 10 mg/mL solution) once monthly
  • Macular edema in RVO: 0.5 mg once monthly for 6 months
  • DME and DR: 0.3 mg (0.05 mL of 6 mg/mL solution) once monthly
  • mCNV: 0.5 mg once monthly for up to 3 months; may retreat if needed
