Oxytetracycline + Polymixin B Sulphate is a combination topical antibiotic effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, especially Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is used for superficial eye and skin infections.
Indications
- Superficial ocular infections due to oxytetracycline and polymyxin-sensitive organisms (conjunctivitis, keratitis, corneal ulcer, blepharitis)
- Superficial skin infections
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical/Eye):
- Eye ointment: Apply 2-4 times daily
- Skin ointment: Apply on sterile gauze 2-3 times daily
Pediatric Dose: Same as adult
Side effects
Side Effects:
- No common side effects at small doses
- Local skin irritation
- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, facial swelling)
Precautions & warnings
- Avoid prolonged use (overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms)
- Severe anaphylactic reactions may occur
- Serious reactions reported in some animals with ophthalmic preparations
