Dopamine Hydrochloride is used for the treatment of low blood pressure due to heart attack, infection, heart surgery, or trauma. It increases blood pressure by increasing pumping capacity of the heart and improving blood flow, and may help prevent kidney failure in critically ill patients.

- Low blood pressure
Dosage
Adult Dose: Hemodynamic conditions: 1-5 mcg/kg/min IV (low dose), 5-15 mcg/kg/min (medium dose), 20-50 mcg/kg/min (high dose). Increase by 1-4 mcg/kg/min at 10-30 min intervals. Titrate to desired response.
Child Dose: 1-5 mcg/kg/min IV, increased to 5-20 mcg/kg/min; not to exceed 50 mcg/kg/min.
Side effects
Common Side Effects:
- Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk)
- Headache
- Increased heart rate
- Palpitations
Precautions & warnings
- Intended for use in hospitalized patients.
- Regular monitoring of heartbeat, blood pressure, urine output, liver and kidney function required.
