Tobramycin Eye Prep is an aminoglycoside antibiotic used for bacterial eye infections (e.g., conjunctivitis) and eyelid infections (e.g., blepharitis). It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit.
Indications
- Bacterial eye infections (conjunctivitis)
- Eyelid infections (blepharitis)
- Prevention of infection after eye injury or surgery
Dosage
Adult and Pediatric (>1 year) Dose (Ophthalmic):
- Mild-moderate infections: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 4 hours
- Severe infections: 2 drops in affected eye(s) every 30-60 minutes until improvement, then reduce frequency gradually
- Eye ointment: Mild-moderate: half-inch ribbon 2-3 times daily; Severe: every 3-4 hours

Precautions & warnings
- Prolonged use may cause corneal damage
- Discontinue if sensitivity reaction occurs
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms and fungi
- May cause temporary blurring of vision; do not drive immediately
- Do not wear contact lenses during active eye infection
