Description
Butenafine 1 % topical is an antifungal medication. It is used in the treatment of fungal skin infections such as ringworm, athlete’s foot, and jock itch. It kills fungi by preventing them from making their protective covering. Butenafine 1 % topical is for external use only. You should use it in the dose and duration as directed by your doctor. The amount you need, and how long you take it will depend on what you are being treated for. You should normally wash and dry the affected area before applying a thin layer of the medicine. You should avoid getting in contact with your mouth, eyes and nose. In case of accidental contact, wash it off with plenty of water. Keep using it regularly to get the most benefit. The most common side effects include burning sensation, itching, or stinging sensation. They are not usually serious and often disappear with time. If they bother you or do not go away, let your doctor know. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using the medicine. Butenafine 1 % topical stops the growth of fungus by preventing them from making their protective covering.

Mechanism of action
Butenafine, a benzylamine antifungal, inhibits the enzyme squalene monooxygenase thus decreasing sterol biosynthesis.
Dosage
Adult Dose: Adult: Topical As 1% cream: For tinea pedis: Apply twice daily for 7 days. not to exceed 4 weeks For tinea corporis, tinea cruris and tinea versicolor: Apply once/twice daily for 2 wk. not to exceed 4 weeks Child Dose: 12 years old: As in adults
Administration
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the cream. Wash your hands after applying, unless hands are the affected area.
