Description
Tioconazole Vag prep is an antifungal medication which treats vaginal infections. It works by killing the fungi in the vaginal by destroying their cell membrane. Tioconazole Vag prep is for external use only. You should use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. It is best to use it at night time for better results. Do not use the medicine for longer than your doctor has told you to and let him or her know if your condition does not improve after 3 days of treatment. The affected area should be clean before using the medicine. You must wash your hands thoroughly before and after applying this medicine. Do not stop using it until you have finished the complete course, even when you feel better. Some of the common side effects include vaginal burning sensation, itching, and irritation. If the side effects bother you or do not go away, let your doctor know. Avoid direct contact of the medicine with your eyes. In case of direct contact, wash your eyes with water and seek immediate medical attention. Do not take it if you are pregnant or could become pregnant unless your doctor has told you to. It makes condom and diaphragm less effective, ask your doctor about effective birth control method. Tioconazole Vag prep is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.

Mechanism of action
Tioconazole, a synthetic azole antifungal, interferes w/ synthesis of ergosterol which is needed for fungal cell membrane synthesis.
Dosage
Adult Dose: Vaginal Vaginal candidiasis Adult: As vaginal Ointment: One full applicator of Vaginal Ointment administered intravaginally at bedtime as a single dose. As vaginal suppository: 300 mg as a single dose P/V. Child Dose: Vaginal Vaginal candidiasis Child> 12 years: As vaginal Ointment: One full applicator of Vaginal Ointment administered intravaginally at bedtime as a single dose. As vaginal suppository: 300 mg as a single dose P/V.
Administration
This medicine is for external use only. Use it in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Clean and dry the affected area and apply the gel. Wash your hands after applying

It is inserted into the vagina using an applicator, usually at night before going to bed. Avoid contact with your eyes. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water. It can damage condoms and diaphragms and make them ineffective at preventing pregnancy. Ask your doctor about other suitable methods of preventing pregnancy. It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away. Inform your doctor immediately if you get fever, chills, stomach pain, or a bad-smelling vaginal discharge. Inform your doctor if your condition does not improve after 3 days, lasts more than 7 days or if the infection returns within two months.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to imidazole-derivative azole antifungal. Self-medication in women with diabetes or HIV infection. Girls <12 yr.
