Description

Ispaghula Husk + Ispaghula Seed + Tinnevelly Senna Pods is a combination specially designed to relieve acute constipation. Ispaghula Husk contains up to 70% soluble and 30% insoluble fibers and is capable of absorbing up to 40 times of water of its own weight, acting as a bulking agent. Ispaghula Seed also helps relieve constipation. Senna is a stimulant laxative containing sennosides which stimulate gut muscles and relieve constipation.

Pharmacology

Ispaghula Husk contains up to 70% soluble and 30% insoluble fibers and is capable of absorbing up to 40 times of water of its own weight, acting as a bulking agent. Ispaghula Seed also helps relieve constipation. Senna is a stimulant laxative containing sennosides which stimulate gut muscles and relieve constipation.

Mechanism of action

Ispaghula Husk and Seed absorb water to increase stool bulk; Senna stimulates gut muscles.

Dosage

Adult Dose (Oral):

  • Adults, elderly and children over 12 years: 1 or 2 sachets once daily at night (not immediately before bedtime)
  • Take the smallest dose to produce comfortable soft stools
  • Do not use for longer than 2 weeks unless doctor suggests

Child Dose: Not recommended for children under 12 years

Administration

Stir granules of sachet into a glass of water and take as soon as possible; take residual portion (if any) with water; take ½ to 1 hour before or after taking other medicines; drink 5-10 glasses of fluid every day while taking this product.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible; if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to regular schedule; do not double the dose.

Drug interactions

Drug Interactions:

  • Ispaghula Husk, Seed and Senna may delay gastric emptying time and reduce absorption of Calcium, Iron and Zinc
  • Other agents should be taken half to one hour before or a few hours after taking this drug

Use in Pregnancy: Best not to use during the first three months of pregnancy; Senna may cause diarrhea in infants as it may pass through breast milk.

Pediatric use

Not recommended for children under 12 years.
