Ispaghula Husk + Ispaghula Seed + Tinnevelly Senna Pods combination is used to relieve acute constipation, maintain normal bowel action in bedridden patients, and reduce pain when emptying the bowels of patients suffering from hemorrhoids.
Indications
- Relief of acute constipation
- Maintain normal bowel action in bedridden patients
- Reduce pain when emptying bowels of patients with hemorrhoids (piles)
Pharmacology
Ispaghula Husk contains up to 70% soluble and 30% insoluble fibers and is capable of absorbing up to 40 times of water of its own weight, acting as a bulking agent. Ispaghula Seed also helps relieve constipation. Senna is a stimulant laxative containing sennosides which stimulate gut muscles and relieve constipation.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Oral):
- Adults, elderly and children over 12 years: 1 or 2 sachets once daily at night (not immediately before bedtime)
- Take the smallest dose to produce comfortable soft stools
- Do not use for longer than 2 weeks unless doctor suggests
Child Dose: Not recommended for children under 12 years
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Mild abdominal distension or flatulence
- Tummy pain
- Runny stools
- Itching and rash (rare)
Use in pregnancy
Use in Pregnancy: Best not to use during the first three months of pregnancy; Senna may cause diarrhea in infants as it may pass through breast milk.
Precautions & warnings
Precautions:
- Do not take without water
- Drink adequate amount of water
- Do not use for longer than 2 weeks unless doctor suggests
- Do not use in patients with intestinal obstruction or faecal impaction
Overdose effects
Overdose: Abdominal discomfort, cramp, diarrhea and flatulence may occur; drink plenty of water.
Storage conditions
Do not store above 30°C; protect from moisture and light; keep out of reach of children.
