Clobetasol Propionate + Salicylic Acid topical is a combination ointment used for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Indications
  • Psoriasis
  • Chronic atopic dermatitis
  • Neurodermatitis (lichen simplex chronicus)
  • Lichen planus
  • Eczema (nummular eczema, hand eczema, eczematous dermatitis)
  • Seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp
  • Ichthyosis vulgaris and other ichthyotic conditions
Dosage

Adult Dose (Topical): Apply a thin layer to the affected skin areas twice daily and rub in gently & completely. Therapy should be discontinued when control has been achieved. If no improvement is seen within 2 weeks, reassessment of diagnosis may be necessary. Should not be used with occlusive dressing. Treatment beyond 2 consecutive weeks and exceeding 50 gm/week is not recommended.

Pediatric Dose (under 12 years): Not recommended.

Side effects

Common Side Effects:

  • Skin peeling
  • Thinning of skin
  • Application site reactions (burning, stinging, itching and redness)
  • Dryness

Serious Side Effects (long-term/large area use): Hypercortisolism (adrenal suppression), local atrophy, systemic absorption, salicylate toxicity (tinnitus, dizziness, deafness).

Precautions & warnings
  • Use with caution on lesions close to the eye.
  • Prolonged use over extensive areas may lead to adrenal suppression; pediatric patients are more susceptible.
  • Appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be used when treating inflammatory lesions that have become infected.
  • Should not be used with occlusive dressing.
  • Avoid contact with broken or inflamed skin.
  • Caution during pregnancy and lactation.
