Calcium Dobesilate is a vasoactive drug used in the treatment of hemorrhoidal syndrome (piles) and varicose veins. It decreases capillary permeability and fragility, reduces blood viscosity, and improves blood circulation.
Indications
- Hemorrhoidal syndrome (piles/hemorrhoids)
- Varicose veins (chronic venous insufficiency of lower limbs)
- Microcirculation disorders of arteriovenous origin
- Chronic venous insufficiency symptoms (pain, cramps, edema)
- Diabetic retinopathy (particular microangiopathy)
- Superficial thrombophlebitis (adjuvant therapy)
Dosage
Adults: 1-2 capsules (500 mg) daily with main meals.
Treatment duration: Generally between a few weeks and several months, depending on the disease and its evolution.
Dosage adjustment: Individualized based on the severity of the case.
Severe renal insufficiency (dialysis): Dose should be reduced.
Side effects
Rare side effects:
• Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea, diarrhea)
• Skin reactions
• Fever
• Articular pain (joint pain)
• Very rare: Agranulocytosis (0.32/million patients)
These reactions are generally spontaneously reversible after treatment withdrawal. In case of gastrointestinal disorders, reduce the dose or temporarily withdraw treatment. In case of skin reactions, fever, articular pain, or changes in blood formula, stop treatment and inform your physician.
Precautions & warnings
- Risk of agranulocytosis: In very rare cases, calcium dobesilate may induce agranulocytosis. If symptoms such as high fever, oral cavity infections (tonsillitis), sore throat, anogenital inflammation, or accompanying symptoms occur, the patient must immediately inform their physician. Blood formula and leucogram should be checked without delay and treatment discontinued.
- Severe renal insufficiency (dialysis): Dosage should be reduced.
- Patients experiencing flu-like symptoms (cough, sore throat, fever) should seek medical care as soon as possible.
