Voriconazole belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It works by stopping the growth of fungus and is used to treat a wide range of fungal infection. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane.
Indications
- Severe fungal infections
- Invasive aspergillosis
- Candidemia
- Esophageal candidiasis
- Infections caused by Scedosporium apiospermum and Fusarium species
Dosage
Adult Dose (IV):
- Invasive Aspergillosis, Candidemia, Serious Fungal Infections: 6 mg/kg IV every 12 hours for first 24 hours, then 4 mg/kg IV every 12 hours or 200 mg PO every 12 hours
- Esophageal Candidiasis: 200 mg PO every 12 hours
- Hepatic impairment: Mild to moderate: standard loading dose but maintenance doses reduced by 50%
Child Dose (12 years and older) (IV):
- Invasive Aspergillosis, Candidemia, Serious Fungal Infections: 6 mg/kg IV every 12 hours for first 24 hours, then 4 mg/kg IV every 12 hours or 200 mg PO every 12 hours
