Dicycloverine Hydrochloride is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic drug used for the treatment of gastrointestinal tract spasm and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Indications
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Gastrointestinal tract spasm
- Intestinal hypermotility
- Colicky abdominal pain
- Diverticulitis
- Infantile colic
Dosage
Adult (Oral): 10-20 mg three times daily.
Adult (IM Injection): 20 mg 4 times daily (only for 1-2 days; switch to oral therapy as soon as possible).
Child (2-12 years): 10 mg three times daily.
Child (6 months-2 years): 5-10 mg 3-4 times daily.
Side effects
Common: Difficulty in accommodation, exacerbation of glaucoma, tachycardia, palpitations, arrhythmias, urinary retention, restlessness, confusion, excitement, hallucination and delirium.
Potentially Fatal: Respiratory arrest in infants <10 weeks.
Precautions & warnings
Caution in hepatic or renal disease, urinary retention, paralytic ileus, hyperthyroidism, hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiac tachyarrhythmia, children, elderly, pregnancy.
