Pharmacology
Folic acid: Required for nucleoprotein synthesis and maintenance of normal erythropoiesis; converted to tetrahydrofolic acid by dihydrofolate reductase; prevents neural tube defects. Vitamin C: Necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair; plays a role in oxidation/reduction reactions and synthesis of catecholamines, carnitine, and steroids; also plays a role in conversion of folic acid to folinic acid. Vitamin D3: Necessary for regulation of calcium and phosphate homeostasis and bone mineralisation; aids in calcium absorption from the GI tract and stimulates bone formation.
Mechanism of action
Folic acid aids in DNA synthesis. Vitamin C aids in collagen formation and acts as an antioxidant. Vitamin D3 aids in calcium absorption and bone health.
