Naftifine Topical is an allylamine antifungal used for skin fungal infections such as tinea pedis, tinea cruris and tinea corporis. It inhibits squalene monooxygenase enzyme to reduce ergosterol synthesis.
Description
Naftifine is a synthetic, broad spectrum antifungal agent and allylamine derivative. It interferes with sterol biosynthesis by inhibiting the enzyme squalene 2,3-epoxidase, resulting in decreased amounts of ergosterol and accumulation of squalene in the cells. It has both fungicidal and fungistatic activity.

Pharmacology
Naftifine interferes with sterol biosynthesis by inhibiting squalene 2,3-epoxidase enzyme, resulting in decreased ergosterol and accumulation of squalene in fungal cells, damaging the fungal cell wall.
Mechanism of action
Kills fungi by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cell wall.
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- Cream/Gel: Apply a thin layer to affected areas plus half inch margin of healthy skin
- Cream: Once daily; Gel: Twice daily (morning and evening)
- Tinea cruris and tinea corporis: 2-4 weeks
- Tinea pedis: 4-6 weeks; severe infections may require prolonged treatment
Pediatric Dose (12-17 years): Same as adult
Administration
- For external use only
- Clean and dry affected area before application
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth and other mucous membranes
- Avoid occlusive dressings or wrappings
Missed dose
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; skip if it's almost time for next dose; do not double the dose.
