Pharmacology

Sodium Acetate provides a bicarbonate source through hepatic metabolic conversion, helping to prevent acidosis. Potassium Chloride is a major intracellular cation involved in nerve conduction, muscle contraction, and acid-base balance.

Dosage

Adult Dose (IV):

  • As required; depends on patient's age, weight, and clinical condition
  • Recommended flow rate: up to 100 drops/minute/70 kg body weight
Administration

  • Do not administer rapidly or for prolonged periods

  • Potassium Chloride (oral): Antimuscarinics delay gastric emptying
  • Sodium Chloride: May affect serum concentrations of lithium
  • Sodium Acetate: May affect absorption of certain drugs due to increased intra-gastric pH; may increase renal clearance of acidic drugs, prolong half-life of basic drugs
