Indications

Mechanism of action
Binds the bacterial 30S ribosome, disrupting protein synthesis and killing bacteria (bactericidal).
Dosage
Eye drops: 1–2 drops in the affected eye every 4 hours. Injection: determined by the physician based on body weight and renal function (typically 3–5 mg/kg/day in divided doses).
Administration
Eye drops to the eye; injection only under medical supervision. Serum levels and renal function must be monitored.
Missed dose
Use when remembered; skip if the next dose is near.
Side effects
Eye stinging/redness with drops. Systemic use may cause kidney damage and hearing problems (ototoxicity).
