Description

Tolnaftate is an antifungal which inhibits growth of dermatophytes by distorting the hyphae and stopping mycelial growth. It is inactive against Candida spp or bacteria.

Pharmacology

Tolnaftate inhibits growth of dermatophytes such as Epidermophyton, Microsporum, Trichophyton spp, and Malassezia furfur by distorting the hyphae and stopping mycelial growth. It is inactive against Candida spp or bacteria.

Mechanism of action

Distorts hyphae and stops mycelial growth of dermatophytes, providing antifungal action.

Dosage

Adult and Child Dose (Topical):

  • Apply cream twice daily for 2-6 weeks
  • Continue treatment for 2 weeks after disappearance of all symptoms to prevent recurrence
Administration
  • For external use only
  • Clean and dry the affected area
  • Wash hands after application
  • Do not apply in eyes, nose, mouth, or vagina
Missed dose

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember; if almost time for next dose, skip it; do not double the dose.
