Adapalene 0.3% Topical is a stronger retinoid gel used for the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris. It is more potent than 0.1% and is used for more severe or resistant acne.
Indications
Mild to moderate acne vulgaris, especially for acne that does not respond to 0.1% adapalene.
Dosage
Adults and children (12 years and older):
- Apply a pea-sized amount of gel sparingly to the entire face once daily at bedtime
- Cleanse the face with a mild cleanser and pat dry before application
- Avoid contact with eyes, lips and mucous membranes
Side effects
Common side effects (during the first 2-4 weeks):
- Erythema (skin redness)
- Dry skin
- Skin peeling
- Skin burning/stinging
- Itching
The 0.3% concentration may cause more side effects than 0.1%.
These side effects are usually temporary and decrease with continued use.
Precautions & warnings
- Avoid exposure to sunlight and artificial UV light (skin becomes more sensitive)
- Use non-comedogenic sunscreen and protective clothing when sun exposure cannot be avoided
- Do not apply to broken, sunburnt or eczematous skin
- Use with caution with preparations containing sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid
- Avoid contact with eyes, lips and nostrils
- Do not undergo cosmetic procedures during treatment
- Consult your doctor if pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding
