Fluphenazine Hydrochloride + Nortriptyline may be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Fluphenazine Hydrochloride + Nortriptyline is a combination of two medicines: Fluphenazine and Nortriptyline which have anxiety-lowering and mood-elevating effects. Fluphenazine is a typical antipsychotic. It works by blocking the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain that affects thoughts and mood. Nortriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant which increases the levels of chemical messengers in the brain that help in regulating the mood and treat depression.

Mechanism of action
Fluphenazine blocks postsynaptic dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the mesolimbic system and decreases the release of hypothalamic and hypophyseal hormones. It increases synaptic concentration of serotonin and/or norepinephrine in the CNS by blocking the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin.
