Bacitracin Zinc + Polymixin B Eye prep is a combination antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial eye infections and prevention of post-surgical eye infections. It is effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Indications
- Bacterial eye infections (conjunctivitis, blepharitis)
- Prevention of post-surgical eye infections
Dosage
Adults and Children:
- Acute infections: Apply ½ inch ribbon to affected eye(s) every 3-4 hours for 7-10 days
- Mild-to-moderate infections: Apply ½ inch ribbon to affected eye(s) 2-3 times daily for 7-10 days
- Continue treatment for another 2 days after the eye has apparently recovered
Side effects
- Allergic contact dermatitis (<1%)
- Conjunctival erythema
- Swelling
- Itching
- Burning
Precautions & warnings
- Ointment may blur vision temporarily
- Prolonged use may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi
- Consult doctor before use if wearing contact lenses
- Caution during pregnancy and lactation
