Polytar 1.0% is used for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, itchy, flaking scalps, seborrhoea, and dandruff. It is a keratolytic agent that elicits antiseptic and antibacterial properties.

Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- Scalp psoriasis and seborrhea: Apply to wet hair/scalp, lather for several minutes, rinse thoroughly, and repeat
- Application frequency depends on severity (two times/week to daily)
Side effects
Side Effects:
- Skin/scalp irritation
- Staining of skin/hair (especially in blonde, bleached, dyed, or gray hair)
- Long-term use may cause hair follicle problems (tar acne)
- Serious allergic reaction (rare)
Precautions & warnings
- Do not use in current severe flare-up of psoriasis
- May increase sensitivity to sun; wash off completely before sun exposure
- Avoid sun exposure, tanning booths, and sunlamps for at least 24 hours after use
