Bromhexine Hydrochloride is a mucolytic medication used in the treatment of various respiratory tract disorders associated with excessive mucus. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the airways, making it easier to cough out.
Indications
- Tracheobronchitis
- Bronchitis
- Bronchiectasis
- Bronchitis with emphysema
- Bronchitis with bronchospasm
- Chronic inflammatory pulmonary conditions
- Pneumoconiosis
Dosage
Adults and Children over 12 years: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily.
Children 6-12 years: 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times daily.
Children 2-6 years: 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) 3 times daily.
Children under 2 years: Not recommended without medical advice.
Tablet dosage (Adults): 8-16 mg 3 times daily.
Tablet dosage (5-10 years): 4 mg 3 times daily.
Tablet dosage (>10 years): 8-16 mg 3 times daily.
Syrup dosage (Adults): Initially 4 teaspoonfuls 3 times daily, then as required.
Do not use for more than 14 days without doctor's advice.
Side effects
- Irritation of ear

- Gastrointestinal side effects (rare)
- Transient rise in serum aminotransferase levels
Precautions & warnings
- Since mucolytics may disrupt gastric mucosa, use with caution in patients with a history of peptic ulcer disease.
- Care is also advisable in asthmatic patients.
- Clearance may be reduced in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment.
- Do not use for more than 14 days without your doctor's advice.
- Caution during pregnancy; avoid during breastfeeding.
- May cause dizziness; know your response before driving.
