Prof. Dr. S.M. Abu Zafar

Prof. Dr. S.M. Abu Zafar is an MBBS and FRCS qualified Laparoscopic and General Surgeon with over 30 years of experience in Laparoscopic Surgery. He currently serves as Senior Consultant, Department of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at Evercare Hospital Dhaka. He served as Head of the Department of Surgery at BIRDEM General Hospital and Ibrahim Medical College for 18 years prior to joining Evercare Hospital Dhaka. At BIRDEM Hospital, he acquired unique experience in the surgical management of patients with Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders, including Bariatric Surgery. He received training in Ireland, Saudi Arabia, India, and Japan in Laparoscopic Surgery, Gastrointestinal Malignancy, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, and Liver Transplantation. He has extensive experience in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Adrenalectomy, Colectomy, and Inguinal and Ventral Hernia Repair. He is a pioneer in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in Bangladesh and has successfully performed more than 50 Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomies. He is also experienced in Breast Surgery, Anal and Perianal Conditions including Piles, Fissure and Fistula, and Incisional and Inguinal Hernia.
