Description
Introduction: Halobetasol Propionate + Tazarotene is a combination lotion used for plaque psoriasis in adults. Halobetasol Propionate is a super-high potency topical corticosteroid and Tazarotene is a retinoid prodrug.
How it works: Corticosteroids play a role in cellular signaling, immune function, inflammation and protein regulation. Tazarotene is converted to its active form, tazarotenic acid, which binds to retinoic acid receptors and may modify gene expression.
Important Information: Apply a thin layer once daily to affected areas. Contraindicated in pregnancy. Do not exceed 50 grams per week.
Indications
- Plaque psoriasis - in adults
Therapeutic class
Other Topical corticosteroids
Pharmacological class
Corticosteroid + Retinoid
Pharmacology
Corticosteroids play a role in cellular signaling, immune function, inflammation and protein regulation. Tazarotene is a retinoid prodrug which is converted to its active form, tazarotenic acid, the carboxylic acid of tazarotene, by deesterification. Tazarotenic acid binds to all three members of the retinoic acid receptor (RAR) family: RARα, RARβ and RARγ, but shows relative selectivity for RARβ and RARγ and may modify gene expression.
Mechanism of action
Halobetasol Propionate inhibits production of inflammatory mediators and Tazarotene modifies gene expression to regulate skin cell growth.
