Levofloxacin 0.5% Eye Prep is an antibiotic used in the treatment of bacterial eye infections. It relieves symptoms by stopping the further growth of causative microorganisms.
Indications
- Bacterial conjunctivitis
- Bacterial corneal ulcer
- Blepharitis, hordeolum, perioperative conditions
- Otitis externa and otitis media (ear drop form)
Dosage
0.5% Eye Drop (Adult and 1 year+):
- Days 1 & 2: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 2 hours while awake, up to 8 times/day
- Days 3-7: 1-2 drops in affected eye(s) every 4 hours while awake, up to 4 times/day
Ear Drop (1.5%):
- Usual dose: 6-10 drops in the ear twice daily; perform ear bath for about 10 minutes after application
Side effects
Common Side Effects (1-3%):
- Transient blurred vision
- Fever
- Foreign body sensation
- Headache
- Transient ocular burning
- Ocular pain or discomfort
- Photophobia
<1%: Allergic reactions, lid edema, ocular dryness, ocular itching
Precautions & warnings
- Caution when driving or using machines (may cause transient blurred vision)
- Do not wear contact lenses until infection clears up
- Avoid prolonged use to prevent overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
