Oxymetazoline Hydrochloride topical cream is used for the treatment of persistent facial erythema associated with rosacea in adults. It acts as a vasoconstrictor of the cutaneous microvasculature.
Indications
- Topical treatment of persistent facial erythema associated with rosacea in adults
Dosage
Adult Dose (Topical):
- Apply a pea-sized amount once daily in a thin layer to entire face (forehead, nose, cheeks, chin)
- Avoid eyes and lips
Side effects
Common Side Effects (1-10%):
- Application-site dermatitis (2%)
- Worsening inflammatory lesions of rosacea (1%)
- Application-site pruritus (1%)
- Application-site erythema (1%)
- Application-site pain (1%)
Precautions & warnings
- α-Adrenergic agonists may impact blood pressure; caution in cardiovascular disease, orthostatic hypotension, uncontrolled hypertension/hypotension
- Caution in cerebral/coronary insufficiency, Raynaud's phenomenon, thromboangiitis obliterans, scleroderma, Sjogren's syndrome
- Seek immediate medical care if signs of acute narrow-angle glaucoma develop
